Mastering these rules is essential not only for passing the knowledge and skills exams but also for internalizing the responsibilities that come with operating a vehicle on public roads. This knowledge forms the foundation for a lifetime of safe driving habits.

- Right-of-way: The legal right of a pedestrian, vehicle, or vessel to proceed in a particular situation or place.
- Per-se BAC: The blood alcohol concentration level at which a driver is legally considered to be intoxicated and can be convicted of DUI without any other evidence.
- Implied consent: A law stating that by driving a vehicle, you have agreed to submit to chemical tests of your breath, blood, or urine to determine alcohol or drug content, if asked to do so by a law enforcement officer.
- Divided highway: A road which has a median strip or other physical barrier separating traffic moving in opposite directions.
- Keep right/left-lane: The rule requiring drivers to stay in the rightmost lane on multi-lane roads, except when passing, turning left, or when the right lane is blocked.
- No-zone: The large blind spots around a commercial truck or bus where cars are not visible to the driver.
- Hydroplaning: A dangerous condition where a vehicle’s tires lose contact with the road surface and ride on a thin film of water, causing a loss of steering and braking control.
- Reversible lane: A traffic lane where the direction of traffic flow can be changed to accommodate peak traffic volumes, typically controlled by overhead signals.
License Classes
Georgia issues several classes of non-commercial licenses, each authorizing the operation of specific types of vehicles. It is illegal to operate a vehicle without the correct class of license for that vehicle.
