6. → Navigating the Roads
Knowing how to properly navigate intersections, turns, and passing situations is the essence of safe driving. These rules create a predictable and orderly flow of traffic, preventing the chaos that would otherwise occur. Mastering the principles of right-of-way, executing turns correctly, and knowing when it is safe to pass are critical skills that are heavily emphasized on the road test and are vital for avoiding collisions in everyday driving.
Right-of-Way
The concept of right-of-way is often misunderstood. The law does not give anyone the right-of-way; it only specifies which driver must yield the right-of-way. It is a driver’s responsibility to do everything possible to avoid a crash, regardless of who legally has the right-of-way.
Uncontrolled Intersections
An uncontrolled intersection has no signs or signals. When two vehicles arrive at the intersection at roughly the same time, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right.
