Vehicle Malfunctions

Tire Blowout

A blowout is a sudden loss of air pressure in a tire, which will cause the vehicle to pull sharply in the direction of the failed tire.

1. Do not brake. Slamming on the brakes is the worst possible reaction, as it can cause a complete loss of control.
2. Grip the steering wheel firmly with both hands to counteract the pull.
3. Ease your foot off the accelerator and allow the vehicle to slow down gradually.
4. Once the vehicle has slowed to a safe, manageable speed, steer it off the roadway, come to a stop, and activate your emergency flashers.
