Parking Laws and Restrictions

Proper parking techniques are enforced to ensure safety on Kansas roadways. When parking on a hill with a curb, you must turn your wheels away from the curb if facing uphill, and toward the curb if facing downhill. If there is no curb, turn your wheels to the right (toward the road edge) regardless of the slope. It is illegal to park in specific safety zones: within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 30 feet of a traffic signal or stop sign, and within 50 feet of a railroad crossing.

You also cannot park within 20 feet of a fire station driveway entrance. Drivers must observe colored curb markings: red indicates a fire zone (no parking), yellow indicates a loading zone, and blue is reserved exclusively for vehicles displaying a disabled parking placard.
