Right-of-Way

Right-of-way rules determine who must yield to prevent collisions. At an uncontrolled intersection (with no signs or signals), the vehicle that arrives first has the right-of-way. If two vehicles arrive simultaneously, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right. You must always yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and to emergency vehicles using sirens and flashing lights by moving to the right and stopping.

When entering a roadway from a driveway or alley, you must stop and yield to all traffic on the main road. At a four-way stop, the first vehicle to come to a complete stop proceeds first. If two vehicles stop at the same time, the vehicle on the right has the right-of-way. Remember, right-of-way is given, not taken; never assume another driver will yield.
