Statutory Speed Limits in Louisiana
When no signs are posted, default speed limits apply. In business or residential districts, the limit is 30 mph. On two-lane state highways, it is 55 mph, and on multi-lane, divided highways it is 65 mph. The maximum speed on interstate highways is 70 mph.
School zones have reduced speeds, typically 20 or 25 mph, during specific hours when children are present. It is illegal to drive so slowly that you impede the normal flow of traffic, and you should not use the left lane on multi-lane highways for slow driving.
