Colorado Driver’s License Rules
Colorado issues Class C licenses for standard vehicles and Class M for motorcycles. For drivers under 18, the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program requires a 12-month permit period with 50 hours of supervised driving (including 10 at night) and specific behind-the-wheel training. After meeting permit requirements, minors can get a provisional license with passenger and curfew restrictions before becoming eligible for a full license at 18.
Adults (18+) must provide proof of identity, legal name, and lawful U.S. presence, and pass knowledge, vision, and driving tests. Licenses can be renewed online, by mail, or in person, but if expired for over a year, retesting may be required. Duplicate licenses cost $12 for the first and $16 for the second.
