Colored Curbs and Pavement Markings in California
Painted curbs indicate special parking rules. A white curb is for quick passenger pick-up/drop-off. A green curb is for limited-time parking. A yellow curb is for loading/unloading passengers or freight.
A red curb means no stopping, standing, or parking is allowed. A blue curb is reserved exclusively for disabled persons with a valid placard or license plate; parking there without one is illegal.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are reserved for individuals with a valid Disabled Person (DP) placard or license plate. It is illegal to park in these spots or the adjacent crosshatched areas without the proper credentials.
Misusing a disabled placard is a serious misdemeanor offense. Penalties can include fines up to $1,000, up to six months in jail, and cancellation of the placard.
