Delaware Speed Limits

The fundamental rule in Delaware is the Basic Speed Law, which requires you to never drive faster than is safe for the current road, traffic, and weather conditions. Posted speed limits are the maximum allowed under ideal conditions, but you must always adjust your speed to match the situation.

Default speed limits apply when no signs are posted: 25 mph in business/residential areas, 50 mph on two-lane highways, and 55 mph on divided highways. It is also illegal to drive so slowly that you impede the normal flow of traffic.
