Nevada GDL Program

For drivers under 18, Nevada uses a Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program that begins with an instruction permit. To get a permit at age 15½, you must pass vision and knowledge tests; while driving, you must be accompanied by a licensed driver aged 21 or older with at least one year of experience.

Before applying for a license at age 16, you must hold the permit for six months and complete 50 hours (or 100 hours if no driving school is nearby) of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night. For the first six months with your license, you cannot transport passengers under 18 who are not immediate family members.
