Knowing how to react during a vehicle emergency or a traffic stop can be the difference between a controlled situation and a catastrophe. Vehicle Malfunctions

Mechanical failures can happen suddenly and without warning. Knowing the correct, counter-intuitive actions to take can help a driver maintain control and bring the vehicle to a safe stop.

Tire Blowout

A sudden loss of air pressure in a tire will cause the vehicle to pull sharply in the direction of the flat.

1. Grip the steering wheel firmly with both hands to fight the pull.
2. Do not slam on the brakes. This is the most critical step. Sudden braking can cause the vehicle to spin out of control.
3. Remove your foot from the accelerator to allow the vehicle to slow down gradually.
4. Once the vehicle has slowed to a manageable speed, gently apply the brakes and steer to a safe location off the roadway.
