Sharing the Road
As a driver, you must safely share the road with pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and large vehicles. Always yield to pedestrians, especially those who are blind using a white cane or guide dog. When passing a bicyclist, leave at least three feet of space. Be extra cautious around large trucks and buses, as they have large blind spots called “No-Zones”; if you can’t see the driver’s mirrors, they can’t see you.
You must always stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign, regardless of your direction of travel, unless you are on a divided highway with a median. When approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with flashing lights, obey the “Move Over Law” by slowing down and moving over one lane if possible to provide a safety buffer.
