Arizona Driver’s License Rules

Arizona issues Class D and C licenses for standard vehicles and a Class M license for motorcycles, which can be an endorsement on a standard license. The Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program is a three-stage process for new drivers between 15 years and 6 months and 18 years old, which includes a learner’s permit, an intermediate license, and finally an unrestricted license at age 18.

For adults (18+), the application process requires providing proof of legal presence and a Social Security number, passing a knowledge test, a vision screening, and a road test. Licenses are valid for 12 years and can be renewed online, while duplicates for lost licenses can also be ordered online unless a new photo is required.
